    What is Gateway Travel & Tours doing for their clients?

    We have a Task Team in place that is kept up to date with all current situations pertaining to COVID-19 as well as travel bans etc. This ensures that we are offering our clients accurate and up to date information so that they are able to make an informed decision. Our top priority is the safety of our clients and to provide them with peace of mind during this time of uncertainty

    Should I cancel my trip or postpone to a later date?
    Clients are encouraged to refer to The World Health Organisation (WHO) website which provides recommendations on either cancelling or postponing travel arrangements. It is vital that clients always refer to a reliable and trusted source such as WHO for this information.

    Can I cancel or amend my flight / booking ?
    As each booking is unique with its own specific T&C’s,  we encourage you to contact your consultant who will assist you with the best options in either cancelling or postponing your travel arrangements. We will do everything within our means to ensure that this process runs as smoothly as possible.

    If I cancel my trip, will I get a full refund ?
    Again each booking is unique and is subject to the airlines, hotels etc own T&C’s.  There are several suppliers who have adjusted their T&C’s to offer flexibility.  Please contact your consultant who is standing by to assist you in the best way possible

    Will Travel Insurance cover any penalties relating to the Coronavirus ?

  • Passport, Visa and Health requirements

    It is the responsibility of each passenger to ensure that they are in possession of the correct travel documentation prior to departure.

    Gateway Travel & Tours cannot accept responsibility for any consequences, of any nature whatsoever, arising from the passengers failing to ensure that they have complied with the necessary health, passport or visa requirements.

    Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after your intended date of return and must have at least 2 blank pages  for visa stamping purposes.

    Gateway Travel & Tours recommends that all travellers  contact the relevant consulate before travel for up-to-date visa and health requirements.

  • Terms and Conditions

    GATEWAY TRAVEL & TOURS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

     1.  The client who signifies his/her acceptance of a booking does so on behalf of himself/herself and all other persons under his/her authority.

    2.  A non-refundable deposit of R750 for each person is required when booking.  This deposit is accepted as part of the inclusive fare and will only be refunded if the application cannot be accommodated.

    3.  The full amount due by the client to Gateway Travel  & Tours, shall be payable on confirmation of package.  If the full amount is not paid within 48 hours of confirmation, Gateway Travel & Tours reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled.

    4.  Cancellation Policy   –  Cancellation by You
    If you wish to cancel your booking you must advise your agent immediately. Please note that you will be liable to pay the following cancellation charges, including but not limited to:
    a) Where your booking includes a special fare, the airline levies the relevant charges. In some circumstances this may be 100% of the total fare, regardless of when cancellation is affected.
    b) Where your booking is for a package, you will be responsible for all cancellation charges relating to the various components, of whatsoever nature, imposed by the suppliers providing the component parts of such travel arrangements.
    c) Gateway Travel & Tours charges a cancellation fee equal to 10% of the package price on any finalised booking. However, Gateway Travel & Tours reserves the right to charge an appropriate cancellation fee in its sole discretion, in particular circumstances. Any monies, which you have already paid to us, will be taken by us as payment or part payment of any cancellation charges.

    4.1 Our Right to Change Your Travel Arrangements
    a) A significant change to your travel arrangements would include a change in the departure date from South Africa; where the flight times are changed by more than 12 hours or a change to a lower standard of accommodation to that which is booked.
    b) Every effort is made by Gateway Travel & Tours to adhere to confirmed itineraries; however, we reserve the right to make changes to your travel arrangements should it become necessary to do so.
    c) Should any travel component be confirmed by Gateway Travel & Tours and this component is cancelled by the supplier for whatsoever reason, then in such instances Gateway Travel & Tours will accept no liability for the cancellation thereof.

    Airline Refund Procedures
    a) Refund policies of the various airlines vary between airlines. Tickets returned to Gateway Travel & Tours, will be presented to the relevant airline for assessment. Should a refund be authorised, such refund will be made to you by the airline, less any cancellation or administration charges.
    b) If payment for the ticket was made to Gateway Travel & Tours by credit card, the refund will be made to your credit card. Cash payments will be refunded by EFT.
    c) Partly used tickets will be refunded at less than the pro rata rate on the face value of such ticket.
    d) Refunds may take up to 12 weeks to process although this time frame cannot be guaranteed by Gateway Travel & Tours.
    e) Unused tickets must be returned to Gateway Travel & Tours for a refund within one year from the date of issue or they will be regarded as expired by the airline and have no refund value.

    5.  Should a client fail to join a tour, or fail to use the accommodation/services booked by Gateway Travel  & Tours on their behalf, for any reason whatsoever, no refund will be made nor liability accepted by Gateway Travel & Tours.  As agents, Gateway Travel & Tours  act only as agents for the principals (client and supplier) and accept no liability for loss or damage which any client may suffer as a result of the failure of such principals to fulfil their obligations, whether in relation to travel arrangements, accommodation or otherwise. Gateway Travel & Tours will do everything possible to arbitrate between supplier and client, but cannot be held responsible for the client’s dissatisfaction with the tour, or non-delivery by the supplier.

    6.  Gateway Travel & Tours  reserves the right to and shall be entitled to cancel any tour or product sold prior to departure and in such case Gateway Travel & Tours shall be obligated to refund all amounts received by them from the client, who shall have no further claim of whatsoever nature against Gateway Travel & Tours arising out of such cancellation.

    7.  It is the client’s responsibility to arrange cancellation insurance.  It is strongly recommended that clients also take out personal and baggage insurance.

    8.  The client acknowledges that the tour price and itinerary disclosed to him/her at the time of booking, or alternatively at the time that the contract was concluded, may be varied by Gateway Travel & Tours from time to time, without notice to the client, at the discretion of Gateway Travel & Tours and provided the itinerary is not substantially different from the itinerary that the client anticipated enjoying, the client shall not be entitled to cancel the contract.

    9.  The client acknowledges that it is his/her responsibility to ensure that he/she is possessed of the necessary travel documents, i.e. passports and Visas, that may be required in respect of the proposed tour and itinerary as well as all health and other certificates that may be required. Gateway Travel & Tours will endeavour to assist the client in regard to this, but do not assume any obligation or liability and the responsibility to ensure that the aforesaid documents are in order and comply, remains the client’s.

    10. It is recorded that the contract may contemplate a tour/journey to an area(s) where the client may be exposed to danger and so the client has agreed to execute a waiver of rights against Gateway Travel & Tours as an integral part of the contract.  The client (which shall be deemed to include the heirs, executors, administrators or assigns of the client) does hereby irrevocably waive and abandon all and whatsoever rights which the client may have against Gateway Travel & Tours, in consequence of any damage, injury or otherwise.

    11. The client agrees that he/she will at all times comply with Gateway Travel & Tours in regard to his/her conduct, and he/she will not in any way constitute a nuisance to any other client on the tour.

    12. Gateway Travel & Tours reserves the right to increase the tour fares due to any increase in airline tariffs, fuel costs, game reserve fees or any other elements making up the cost of the tour, or fluctuation of exchange rates.

  • Travel Checklist

    Please make sure that you check the following before travelling:

    • Is your passport valid for 6 months after your return?
    • Have you contacted the relevant consulate regarding visa entry requirements into your destination of choice?
    • Have you arranged Travel insurance?
    • Have you checked all your travel documents for accuracy? Tip!! It is a good idea to carry photocopies of all your documents (separate to the original).
    • Have you reconfirmed your flights directly with the airline 72 hours prior to departure.

     

    Baggage Allowances

    Please reconfirm before travel as this differs from airline to airline.

    • Domestic& International Economy Class – 20kg per person
    • Business Class – Domestic & International – 30kg per person
    • Hand luggage – 6kg per person, of a size that will fit into the overhead locker, total dimensions 115cm (height / length / width).

     

    Liquids 

    Wherever possible you should pack liquids in your hold baggage, as there are restrictions on the amount you can take in your hand baggage

     

    Liquids include:

    • all drinks, including water, soup and syrups
    • cosmetics and toiletries, including creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lipsticks
    • sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants
    • pastes, including toothpaste
    • gels, including hair and shower gel
    • contact lens solution
    • any other solutions and items of similar consistency

     

    Allowed:

    • containers must hold no more than 100ml
    • containers must be carried in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
    • contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
    • the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
    • each passenger can carry only one of these bags
    • the bag must be presented for examination at the airport security point
    • you are allowed to carry essential medicines of more than 100ml in your hand baggage, but you will need approval from the airline and departure airport.

     

    Foreign Exchange  

    The South African Reserve Bank has issued the following requirements when purchasing foreign exchange:

    Residents of South Africa over the age of 18 are now permitted, an allowance of R1 million per calendar year and children under 18 an allowance of R200 000.00 per calendar year.  A maximum of R5 000.00 may also be taken in Rand cash for use on entry to South Africa.

    Conditions for issuance of forex to SA Residents:

    • Forex is applied for within a 60 day period prior to departure.
    • A valid passport and air ticket is presented.
    • The amount applied for is within the annual allowance.
    • All unused foreign currency must be returned to an authorised dealer within 30 days upon return to South Africa.
    • Proof of residence is provided.

    Conditions for encashments for Non-SA Residents

    • Valid passport
    • Slip of foreign exchange previously sold to a foreign exchange dealer

     

    Passport requirements  

     

    Valid passports are required and your passport must be valid for 6 months after you return. It is a requirement of SA immigration that you have at least 2 blank pages available in your passport when you travel. You may be refused entry into other countries if you do not have 2 blank pages in your passport.

    Immunisation

     

    Ask your doctor about the necessity of immunisation from disease (e.g. Cholera, Hepatitis, Tetanus, etc.) for the countries you intend to visit. If you have any immunisations done, make sure you receive an International Health Certificate to show at immigration checkpoints and hospitals.
